NOVELTY - An energy converter unit (50) comprises a multilayered crystal structure (100) including a selected layers arrangement comprising a layer (L1) of material composition (C1) and a layer (L2) of material composition (C2), where the layers arrangement is formed of a pattern of (n1) layers of the layer (L1) and (n2) layers of the layer (L2) generating a selected lattice periodicity of the layers, and the lattice periodicity is chosen such that the multilayered crystal structure responds to the charged particle beam of predetermined parameters by coherent emission of X-ray radiation (120) having selected spectral content and emission direction. USE - Energy converter unit used for X-ray source unit (claimed). Uses include but are not limited to electronics inspections, pharma quality insurance, food security, lithography based on X-ray sources, crystalline purity of samples, detection of doping rate, detection of crystal defected areas and the rate of defects, drug inspection with tunable x-ray source based on specific designed superlattices, food inspection with tunable x-ray source based on specific designed superlattices, security inspections for hazardous and suspicious materials, detection and concentration measurements, and heat treatment inspections and control. ADVANTAGE - The energy converter unit provides compact X-ray source unit with high quality, and tenability.
