NOVELTY - Method of providing a heating system to an outer skin of an aircraft, involves forming laser-induced graphene (LIG) on a thermoset polymer sheet by directing laser energy towards the polymer sheet, coupling electrical leads to the LIG, and bonding the polymer sheet against the outer skin or erosion protection layer secured to the outer skin so that to the polymer sheet conforms with a shape of the outer skin. USE - The method is used for providing a heating system to an outer skin of an aircraft i.e. commercial aircraft. Can also be used for a military aircraft. ADVANTAGE - The method enables forming LIG in a mesh pattern or a serpentine pattern, so that the LIG is formed on the outer skin of the aircraft in an effective manner. The method allows the outer surface to be formed of a carbon-glass fiber composite, so as to reduce the weight of the carbon fiber composite structure, thus reducing the manufacturing cost of the airfoil, and hence reducing the overall weight of an aircraft. The LIG can be formed in the mesh pattern, the serpentine or the mesh-like pattern, and the mesh or serpentine-like patterns can be used to form the laser generated LIG, thus improving the thermal conductivity of the laser induced LIG in an efficient manner, and reducing the amount of time and cost required to form LIG. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) (1) a method for providing a heating system to an interior structure of an aircraft; and (2) (2) a method for providing a heating system to a component of an aircraft system.
