NOVELTY - Composite catalyst comprises carbon nano material and polymer. The carbon nanomaterial includes carbon nanotubes, carbon nanowires, graphene, and/or fullerene. USE - The catalyst is useful in the reaction of hydration of alkylene oxide to glycol (claimed). DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Composite catalyst comprises carbon nano material and polymer. The carbon nanomaterial includes carbon nanotubes, carbon nanowires, graphene, and/or fullerene. The expression of the polymer is P(M(Salen)X), M(Salen)X is the basic structural unit of the polymer, and M is a metal ion of cobalt (III), rhodium (III), gallium (III), chromium (III), Salen is a Shiff base derivative, X is an axial anion, X is hexafluorophosphate and/or boron tetraflouride, or X is antimony fluoride and a halogen anion. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing the diol catalyst by hydration of alkylene oxide includes (i) dispersing the carbon nanomaterial in a solvent, adding a Shiff base derivative monomer containing a double bond substituent, or a diamine and a mixture of 1,3,5-tris(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl), monomer of benzene or substituted 1,3,5-tris(3-formyl-4-hydroxyphenyl)benzene, or containing initiator, performing polymerization to obtain a composite material of carbon nanomaterials and Shiff base derivative polymers, (ii) dispersing the composite material in a solvent, and adding a solution containing M'Y3 and/or Cobalt(II) acetate and reacting, (iii) dispersing the product in a solvent, adding hexafluorophosphate ion and/or tetrafluoroborate ion, or antimony fluoride containing solution, and reacting to obtain a composite catalyst composed of carbon nanomaterials and polymer P(M(Salen)X).
