NOVELTY - Lithium ion anode (60) comprises an anode active material-containing layer (70) having an electrolyte-facing side and a current collector-facing side, where the anode active material-containing layer comprises a graphite anode active material, a silicon or silicon compound active material, and a lithium reservoir, and an anode current collector (80). USE - The lithium ion anode is used in lithium ion cell which is used in battery, preferably vehicle battery. The battery is a cylindrical cell, a pouch cell, or a prismatic cell. The vehicle battery includes safety equipment and/or control equipment (all claimed). The lithium ion anode is used in secondary batteries, preferably lithium ion batteries. The lithium ion anode is used in rechargeable batteries such as mobile communication devices, such as phones, mobile entertainment devices, and portable computers, and transportation devices, such as automobiles and forklifts. ADVANTAGE - The lithium ion anode has high capacity and high energy density, and stabilizes and balances factor which decreases or prevents manganese dissolution during use of a cell, and prevents thermal runaway and resulting battery or cell damage and fires. The lithium ion anode avoids or lowers production hydrofluoric acid and hydrogen fluoride gas in the cell or battery, as compared to otherwise similar electrolytes containing lithium hexafluorophosphate, and provides increased safety during use. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: a high capacity lithium ion cell comprising a high capacity anode, a cathode comprising a cathode active material, and an electrolyte; a battery comprising at least one lithium ion cell, and a casing; and a vehicle battery comprising at least one battery, a positive connector, a negative connector, and a housing.
