NOVELTY - Composite rare earth catalyst comprises rare earth oxide, carbon source, reducing agent and platinum source aqueous solution. The mass ratio of carbon source and rare earth oxide is 10-100:50-500. The mass-volume ratio of the carbon source and reducing agent is 10-100:1-100 (g:l). The mass-volume ratio of the carbon source and platinum source aqueous solution is 10-100:1-20 (g:l). The rare earth in the rare earth oxide is lanthanum, cerium, praseodymium, neodymium, samarium, europium, terbium, dysprosium or ytterbium. The carbon source is activated carbon, mesoporous carbon, graphene or carbon nanotube. The reducing agent is an ethanolic solution of ethylene glycol, sodium borohydride or an ethanolic solution of potassium borohydride. In the platinum source aqueous solution, the platinum source is chloroplatinic acid, potassium chloroplatinate or sodium chloroplatinate. USE - The composite rare earth catalyst is useful in fuel cell for converting chemical energy of fuel and oxidant into electrical energy by a redox reaction. ADVANTAGE - The catalyst displays the flower spherical structure under the electron microscope, and loads the nano particles on it, so as to make the rare earth oxide and platinum element contact, which greatly improves the synergistic effect of the catalyst, improves the utilization rate of the fuel cell. The preparation method claims a simple, low technique requirement, suitable for preparation scale of application.
