NOVELTY - Producing halogenated graphene and/or halogenated graphite nano-platelet structures involve carrying out electrochemical reaction of graphite platelets and/or graphene and/or graphene oxide in electrochemical cell. The cell comprises negative electrode comprising graphite platelets and/or graphene and/or graphene oxide, positive electrode, and an electrolyte comprising halide ions and/or elemental halogen. The current is passed between the electrodes. The halogenated graphene and/or halogenated graphite nano-platelet structures have thickness of less than or equal to 100nm. USE - Method for producing halogenated graphene and/or halogenated graphite nano-platelet structures (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method enables to produce halogenated graphene and/or halogenated graphite nano-platelet structures in safe and efficient manner that do not disturb the morphology of the starting material, and have good magnetic, electrical and electronic properties.
