NOVELTY - Build plate comprises at least a first material (1) and a second material (2), where the materials are solid, have different coefficients of thermal conductivity and are located in different parts of the build plate in order to provide different intensities of heat removal from different portions of the deposition surface (3). The build plate is provided with a deposition surface for temporary placement of the product being built and with a set of mounting elements (5) for attaching to an additive manufacturing apparatus and is adapted to reduce the temperature difference between different portions. The product is built in a defined manner in contact between the product and the deposition plate during additive manufacturing. The solid materials are a non-metal, which is graphene or graphite or a ceramic-based material. USE - The plate is useful for an additive manufacturing apparatus for making products from partially melted materials e.g. metals, plastics, powders and filaments. ADVANTAGE - The plate is adapted for controlled reduction of the temperature difference between the various parts of the product on the contact surface between the product and the build plate during additive manufacturing. The entire product is brought to a uniform temperature and the temperature gradients among its different parts are reduced which reduces residual stresses and microcracking. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for an additive manufacturing apparatus for making products from partially melted materials.
