NOVELTY - Removing a metal contaminant from a fluid hydrocarbon, involves contacting a contaminated fluid hydrocarbon comprising a metal contaminant provided in an initial metal concentration, with a sorbent comprising graphene oxide treated with polycarboxylic acid or its salt, where the contacting step is conducted under conditions sufficient to provide a purified fluid hydrocarbon comprising a reduced metal concentration of the metal contaminant as compared with the initial metal concentration. USE - Method for removing a metal contaminant from fluid hydrocarbon, preferably liquid hydrocarbon fuel, where the metal contaminant is vanadium, manganese, iron, cobalt, nickel, copper and/or lead (all claimed), and the liquid hydrocarbon fuel is an aviation fuel or turbine fuel. ADVANTAGE - The method enables removing greater than 99 percent of metal contaminant without reducing concentrations of advantageous fuel additives. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for removing a metal contaminant from a liquid hydrocarbon fuel, which involves contacting a contaminated mixture comprising liquid hydrocarbon fuel, a fuel additive provided in an initial additive concentration, and a metal contaminant provided in an initial metal concentration, with the sorbent. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a metal contaminant filter system. Housing (1) Interior plenum (3) Exterior wall (5) Inlet (7) Metal contaminant filter system (10)
