NOVELTY - Producing an absorbent, comprises: preparing a crystalline substance comprising sugar and having at least one carbon nanomaterial embedded in it; preparing a mixture comprising an organosilicon compound and a curing agent; putting the crystalline substance in contact with the mixture for allowing absorption of the mixture onto the surface of the crystalline substance to form an absorbed crystalline substance; and removing sugar from the absorbed crystalline substance to obtain the absorbent. USE - The method is useful for producing an absorbent which is used to clean an oil spill from a polluted body. ADVANTAGE - The method provides absorbent using simple techniques without the need of hazardous chemicals. The absorbent can efficiently improves oil and organic solvents absorption from polluted body e.g. water body or solid surface. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for an absorbent for absorbing oil from a waterbody comprising a crystalline substance having at least one carbon nanomaterial and an organosilicon compound adsorbed on it.
