NOVELTY - Producing functional carbon fibers, comprises (a) preparing a first base solution in which silica precursor, silane coupling agent, hydrolysis accelerator, acidic catalyst, and solvent are mixed; (b) preparing a second base solution by mixing graphene oxide with the first base solution; (c) dispersing carbon fibers in the second base solution and then drying them to obtain a mixed powder in which the silicon oxide-coated carbon fibers and the silicon oxide and the graphene oxide are mixed; and (d) forming a silicon carbide layer on a surface of the carbon fibers by heat-treating the carbon fibers coated with silicon oxide and the mixed powder. The silica precursor is tetraethyl orthosilicate. The silane coupling agent is 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane. USE - The method is useful for producing functional carbon fibers. ADVANTAGE - The method enables manufacture of functional carbon fibers having excellent oxidation resistance even at high temperature of ≥ 500° C. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for functional carbon fibers prepared by the above method. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a flowchart illustrating the method for producing functional carbon fibers (Drawing includes non-English language text).
