NOVELTY - Anode active material comprises lithium titanate constituting the core; and titanium dioxide constituting the shell. USE - The anode active material is useful as an anode for lithium secondary battery (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The anode active material allows electron conduction and ion conduction simultaneously, has high output characteristics that utilize more than 80% of the capacity even under ultra-high-speed charging and discharging conditions of ≥ 3 minutes. The method is capable of mass synthesis of anode active material based on inexpensive raw materials e.g. titanium dioxide and various lithium precursors, prepares secondary battery with excellent charge and discharge performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: anode active material comprising (S1) mixing titanium dioxide, a lithium precursor and a carbon material, (S2) preparing lithium titanate by primary heat treatment of the mixture, and (S3) a lithium secondary battery in which a titanium dioxide layer is formed on the surface of the lithium titanate by secondary heat treatment of the lithium titanate; and a lithium secondary battery comprising an anode, a cathode and an electrolyte comprising the anode active material for a lithium secondary battery
