NOVELTY - Preparing catalyst involves mixing metal nickel (Ni) salt, cobalt (Co) salt, carbon source, and amine source in a solvent in a certain proportion, heating, stirring at 50-80℃ to form a uniform jelly, drying the jelly at a temperature of 50-120℃ to obtain the catalyst precursor Ni-Co, heating obtained catalyst precursor Ni-Co, calcining in an inert gas flow to obtain a catalyst, heating catalyst, acid-washing in an environment of 50-80℃, washing at room temperature until neutral, freezing-drying, grinding, and sieving to obtain a nitrogen-doped graphene-coated metal catalyst Ni-Co doped N/C. USE - Method for preparing catalyst used for preparing vanillic aldehyde and 4-methyl guaiacol (claimed) . ADVANTAGE - The method has controllable product diversity, good selectivity, high conversion efficiency, mild conditions, etc., and the catalyst is easy to recycle and use, and has cost-effective, and is a successful example of high-value hydrogenation of biomass platform compounds such as vanillin. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: 1. a catalyst for preparing vanillic aldehyde (VA) and 4-methyl guaiacol (MMP) is prepared by the catalyst preparation method; 2. a catalytic method suitable for preparing VA and MMP, which involves: (a) using the catalyst for preparing VA and MMP; (b) placing catalyst in the fixed-bed reactor; (c) adding the organic solution of vanillin; (d)setting the reaction pressure, flow rate and temperature, and taking directly samples online to obtain the corresponding vanillic aldehyde and 4-methylguaiacol.
