NOVELTY - Preparation of graphene oxide quantum dots, involves: (1) grinding a potato, to form a potato paste; (b) dispersing the paste in deionized water and adding ammonium hydroxide solution; (c) placing the formed mixture in a hydrothermal reactor, at 140-200°C, for 10-15 hours; and (d) cooling to room temperature, followed by filtering and drying. USE - Method is used for preparing graphene oxide quantum dots. ADVANTAGE - The method is an environmentally safe process which enables to prepare graphene oxide quantum dots in an alkaline medium, in high yields. The scalable process utilizes renewable resource of potato starch which is economical and safe to use, without requiring high temperature conditions.
