NOVELTY - Synthesis of graphene oxide involves (i) adding a micronized graphite to a container, and adding 22 ml sulfuric acid, 3 g potassium permanganate and 0.5 g sodium nitrate per gram of graphite, maintaining temperature below 4° C for 90 minutes and stirring, (ii) adjusting temperature to 35° C and maintaining the temperature for 35 minutes, (iii) adding 40-50 mL deionized water per portion of micronized graphite and maintaining the temperature below 80° C, (iv) adding 10-20 mL hydrogen peroxide per portion of micronized graphite until the solution becomes yellow-green, (v) washing the precipitate with deionized water and centrifuging, (vi) drying the precipitate in an oven at 40-60° C, and (vii) exfoliating the solution containing the precipitate diluted in 750-1250 mL per gram of precipitate by ultrasonically processing for 10 minutes and amplitude of 30-75%. USE - Synthesis of graphene oxide used for forming reduced graphene oxide used in manufacture of sensor, energy generation and storage, composite, sorbent, intelligent fabrics, aerogel, electrode, conductive thin film, aircraft component, motor vehicle, coating of foams and building materials (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method quickly produces graphene oxide with higher yield, and promotes shorter oxidation, reduction and exfoliation times. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: process for reduction of the graphene oxide, which involves adding the graphene oxide solution, and 5-15 g sodium borohydride to a container for each gram of graphene oxide added, maintaining the temperature of system at 80-120° C and refluxing for 4-8 hours and separating the reduced graphene oxide from the system; and reduced graphene oxide, which comprises stacked oxidized graphene structures with 6-11 graphene sheets and electrical conductivity of 3000-4000 μ S.cm-1.
