NOVELTY - Method (M1) for making strip shaped graphene layer, comprises: (a) providing carbon nanotube structure (40) on surface (201) of substrate (20), where carbon nanotube structure comprises at least one drawn carbon nanotube film comprising many carbon nanotube segments (411), and each of carbon nanotube segment is separated from each other by strip-shaped gap (412); (b) disposing catalyst material on the surface exposed out of strip-shaped gaps; (c) removing carbon nanotube structure to obtain many catalyst strips on surface of substrate; and (d) growing many graphene strips on catalyst strips. USE - The method is useful for making a strip shaped graphene layer (claimed), which is useful as conductive layer in semiconductor devices. ADVANTAGE - The method: utilizes the carbon nanotube array, which is free of impurities such as carbonaceous or residual catalyst particles; is capable of forming a continuous, uniform and free-standing drawn carbon nanotube film; and utilizes the carbon nanotube structure, which is cost effective, and exhibits improved mechanical strength and toughness. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Method (M1) for making a strip shaped graphene layer, comprises: (a) providing a carbon nanotube structure (40) on a surface (201) of a substrate (20), where the carbon nanotube structure comprises at least one drawn carbon nanotube film comprising many carbon nanotube segments (411), each of the carbon nanotube segment is parallel to each other and separated from each other by a strip-shaped gap (412), and there is at least one strip-shaped gap; (b) disposing a catalyst material on the surface exposed out of the strip-shaped gaps; (c) removing the carbon nanotube structure to obtain many catalyst strips on the surface of the substrate; and (d) growing many graphene strips on the catalyst strips. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for a method (M2) for making a strip shaped graphene layer, comprising: the step (a) as above per se, where there are many strip-shaped gaps; coating a catalyst layer on the carbon nanotube structure, where parts of the catalyst layer contact to the surface of the substrate in the strip-shaped gaps; and the steps (c) and (d) as above per se.
