▎ 摘 要
NOVELTY - Nanocomposite comprises reduced graphene oxide (RGO) and nanoparticles of at least one metal comprising gold, silver, platinum, palladium, cobalt, manganese, iron, tellurium, rhodium, ruthenium, copper, iridium, molybdenum, chromium or cerium, or its oxide. USE - The nanocomposite is useful: in adsorbent that is useful in a batch set-up, column setup and filtering device (a candle, a radial porous block, vertical porous block, a filter bed, a packet or a bag) to adsorb heavy metals (lead, manganese, copper, nickel, cadmium or mercury) from water; in organic reactions (Suzuki coupling reaction, hydrogenation and de-hydrogenation reactions, and cracking of petroleum); in super capacitors; and as a catalyst for oxygen reduction reaction in fuel cells and hydrogen storage (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The nanocomposite: is produced on large scale with good control over particle size, thus critical for mass applications e.g. water purification (ground water, industrial source and/or municipal source); and easily separates adsorbent from aqueous medium and eliminates use of laborious processes e.g. high speed centrifugation, membrane filtration and magnetic separation. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) an adsorbent comprising the nanocomposite bound to a substrate; (2) a method (I) of making the nanocomposite, comprising reducing a metal precursor by RGO; and (3) a method (II) of making the adsorbent, comprising binding the nanocomposite to silica.
