NOVELTY - Silicon-containing slurry comprises a poly(carboxylic acid) binder and a particulate anode active material in a mixed solvent system comprising a first solvent and a second solvent that is miscible with the first solvent, where the first solvent is an N,N-dimethyl-acetamide compound (I). The second solvent is chosen from water and/or organic solvent. The volume ratio of first solvent and the second solvent in the mixed solvent system is 99:1-1:9. The organic solvent comprises one or more material chosen from an alcohol, an ether, a nitrile, and an amide which is different from compound (I) of the first solvent. The particulate anode active material comprises silicon-containing particles, or silicon-containing particles and/or carbon particles. USE - The silicon-containing slurry is useful for manufacturing a silicon-containing electrode for a lithium electrochemical cell, and a battery, and for lithium battery applications. ADVANTAGE - The silicon-containing slurry improved anode capacity, enhanced dispersion of anode slurries, improved quality of laminates, and excellent cell performance. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Silicon-containing slurry comprises a poly(carboxylic acid) binder and a particulate anode active material in a mixed solvent system comprising a first solvent and a second solvent that is miscible with the first solvent, where the first solvent is an N,N-dimethyl-acetamide compound of formula (I). The second solvent is chosen from water and/or organic solvent. The volume ratio of first solvent and the second solvent in the mixed solvent system is 99:1-1:9. The organic solvent comprises one or more material chosen from an alcohol, an ether, a nitrile, and an amide which is different from compound (I) of the first solvent. The particulate anode active material comprises silicon-containing particles, or silicon-containing particles and/or carbon particles; or a poly(carboxylic acid) binder and a particulate anode active material in a solvent comprising 10-90 vol.% N-methylacetamide in water, where the particulate anode active material comprises silicon nanoparticles, or silicon nanoparticles and/or carbon particles. The slurry comprises 50-90 wt.% anode active material and 10-50 wt.% binder. The carbon particles comprise one or more materials chosen from graphite, carbon black, carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, hard carbon, and graphene. R1, R2, and R3 = H, alkyl, alkoxy, or a polyether group.
