NOVELTY - Apparatus comprises: layers comprising a polyurethane (PU) layer (604) used to contact at least an upper portion along a length of a pipe; a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) layer (606) used to surround the PU layer and the length of the pipe; a graphene layer used to surround an upper side of the apparatus and cross layers of the apparatus toward a bottom side of the apparatus to establish contact with the pipe; and an epoxy shell used to surround the graphene layer, and a shape memory polymer (SMP) ring used to provide vertical displacement and push upward upon lateral displacement from pushing by left and right PET blocks. USE - The apparatus is useful for providing and installing shape memory polymer based passive thermal diode (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The apparatus: accommodates external changes in temperature in efficient way; avoids thermal leaks through the PET blocks; and utilizes PET layer which provides low-friction contacts with the PU layer and the pipe. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for providing and installing shape memory polymer based passive thermal diode.
