NOVELTY - Detecting pathogenic agent in a sample involves bringing a sample into contact with a graphene layer functionalized with an antibody exhibiting specific binding affinity to the pathogenic agent, applying a time-varying electric field to the antibody-functionalized graphene layer, monitoring electrical resistance of the graphene layer in response to interaction with the sample, and detecting presence of the pathogenic agent in the sample by detecting a change in the electrical resistance indicative of interaction of the pathogenic agent with the antibody-functionalized graphene layer. USE - Method for detecting pathogenic agent in a sample. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) a sensor for detecting a pathogen in sample, which comprises a substrate, a graphene layer deposited on a surface of the substrate, the graphene layer being functionalized with multiple of antibodies exhibiting specific binding affinity to the pathogen, a microfluidic delivery device coupled to the functionalized graphene layer for delivery of a fluid sample, where the microfluidic device comprises two fluid reservoirs and a fluid channel connecting the two reservoirs, where the fluid channel is configured such that a portion is in fluid contact with a portion of the graphene layer; and (2) a system for detecting pathogenic agents, which comprises a sensor configured for detecting two pathogenic agents.
