NOVELTY - Preparing a catalyst comprises dispersing graphene oxide, reducing agent and palladium salt in water, heating at a temperature ≮ 100°C for at least 2 hours, washing and drying to obtain the final product. USE - The catalyst is useful for producing 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The catalyst: has strong reusability, uniform particle size distribution and catalytic activity; uses partially reduced graphene as template to load metal nanoparticles; can regulate the dominant crystal plane; and reduces the amount of precious metals. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for preparing a 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic dianhydride, comprising subjecting 4-chlorophthalic anhydride, a catalyst, and a reducing substance to a coupling reaction under alkaline conditions to obtain 3,3',4,4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylate, then acidifying to obtain 3,3',4,4'-biphenyltetracarboxylic acid, and dehydrating under reduced pressure to obtain the final product.
