NOVELTY - Making tricyanophosphine (I), comprises polymerizing phosphorus tricyanide to obtain a bulk polymer of (I). USE - The method is useful for making tricyanophosphine used in graphene-based electronics, photo- and electrocatalysis. ADVANTAGE - The method utilizes phosphorus tricyanide to reduce or eliminate the presence of byproducts. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Making tricyanophosphine of formula (I), comprises polymerizing phosphorus tricyanide to obtain a bulk polymer of (I). INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for a material comprising either the polymer of (I) and comprising 5- or 6-membered rings with various carbon, nitrogen, and phosphorus connectivity, or the polymer of (I) and comprising triazine rings bound together by phosphorus atoms, where the material consists primarily of nanoscale sheets of the polymer.
