NOVELTY - The preparation of graphene supported metal oxide catalyst, involves taking metal chloride, mixing with water as solvent to obtain solution (I), mixing graphene and alkali metal hydroxide solution, ultrasonically treating, stirring, washing using deionized water to obtain sediment (I), mixing the solution (I) and sediment (I), ultrasonically treating, stirring, cleaning with deionized water, removing residual reactants to obtain sediment (II), mixing sediment (II) with alkali metal hydroxide solution, ultrasonically treating, stirring, reflux condensing, cleaning, and drying. USE - Preparation of graphene supported metal oxide catalyst used for preparing 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde from hexose (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method provides catalyst having high catalytic activity, high selectivity and high recyclability. The catalyst achieves efficient and environmentally-friendly conversion of hexose to 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde with high yield. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The preparation of graphene supported metal oxide catalyst, involves taking 0.0004-0.0008 mol metal chloride, mixing with water as solvent to obtain 0.33-0.66 mol/l concentration of solution (I), mixing 0.1-0.3 g graphene and 80-120 ml 0.005-0.15 mol/l alkali metal hydroxide solution, carrying out ultrasonic treatment for 1-2 hours at room temperature, stirring at room temperature for 22-26 hours, washing the resulting solid to neutral using deionized water to obtain sediment (I), mixing the solution (I) and sediment (I), carrying out ultrasonic treatment for 1-2 hours, stirring for 22-26 hours, cleaning the resulting solids with deionized water, removing residual reactants to obtain sediment (II), mixing sediment (II) with 80-120 ml 0.005-0.15 mol/l alkali metal hydroxide solution, carrying out ultrasonic treatment for 1-2 hours, stirring for 22-26 hours, carrying out condensation reflux at 60-80 degrees C for 1-4 hours after stirring, cleaning the resulting solids with deionized water, removing residual reactants, and drying at 50-70 degrees C. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) graphene supported metal oxide catalyst prepared by the method; and (2) usage method of graphene supported metal oxide catalyst for preparing 5-(hydroxymethyl)-2-furaldehyde from hexose, which involves dissolving 20-40 mg catalyst in 4-6 ml ionic liquid or dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent, adding 8-10 g hexose, reacting for l-8 hours, and extracting with ethyl acetate.
