NOVELTY - Composite photocatalytic material comprises layered graphene oxide and cerium-containing compound (I). Photocatalyst band gap is 3.16-2.65 eV. USE - Composite photocatalytic material used for preparing methanol (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The preparation method is simple, and has high yield. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Composite photocatalytic material comprises layered graphene oxide and cerium-containing compound of formula CexEryO2 (I). Photocatalyst band gas is 3.16-2.65 eV. x=0-1; and y=0.01-1. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for the preparation of composite photocatalytic material comprising taking soluble cerium salt and erbium salt, dissolving in alkali solution, precipitating, adding graphene oxide, and reacting at 160-180 degrees C for 6-8 hours.
