NOVELTY - Conducting elastomer comprises: a filler powder including a carbon black and functionalized graphene sheets; and a polymer that has a molecular weight of 200-5000 g/mol and is a liquid at room temperature. USE - The conducting elastomer is useful in: conductive coatings and seals for electromagnetic interference shieling and electrostatic charge dissipation; and tires, high-strain sensors and actuators, or stretchable/flexible electronics. ADVANTAGE - The conducting elastomer: has an elongation at failure of up to 323% as tested using an Instron 5567A, and an electrical conductivity at failure of up to 21.9 S/m as tested using two point resistance measurements (all claimed); and exhibits improved extensibility and strength. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for forming the conducting elastomer, comprising either: mixing the filler powder and the polymer, and forming the filler powder and polymer into a sheet; or forming a suspension by dispersing functionalized graphene sheets and carbon black in a solvent, mixing the suspension with the polymer capable of being crosslinked or end-linked, and heating the suspension to evaporate the solvent to form a conducting elastomer paste.
