NOVELTY - Graphene oxide filler comprises: 100 pts. wt. graphene oxide modified with flame retardant, and 20-1000 pts.wt. compatibilizer, where the flame retardant is bound to a functional group present on the surface or edge of the graphene oxide and compatibilizer is bonded to the graphene oxide or the flame retardant. USE - The graphene oxide filler is useful in flame retardant polypropylene composition (claimed) for finished product industry including construction, automobile, electronics, furniture or packaging. ADVANTAGE - The graphene oxide filler exhibits excellent flame retardancy and mechanical properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) preparing a graphene oxide filler comprising (a) forming an amine group (-NH2) in the aromatic flame retardant, (b) dispersing the graphene oxide on a solvent, and sonicating, (c) modifying the graphene oxide with a flame retardant by adding a flame retardant formed with the amine group to the graphene oxide solution, and (d) mixing the graphene oxide modified with the flame retardant with a compatibilizer to introduce the compatibilizer to graphene oxide; and (2) flame retardant polypropylene composition comprising 76-98 wt.% polypropylene, and 2-24 wt.% the graphene oxide filler.
