NOVELTY - The device (200) has composite electrodes (204) comprising a first metal layer (206) that is arranged on a substrate (202). A graphene layer (208) is arranged on the first metal layer. The composite electrodes comprise a second metal layer (210) on the graphene layer, where the substrate comprises piezoelectric materials, and the piezoelectric materials comprise lithium niobate, and the first and second metal layers comprise aluminum and gold. The composite electrodes comprise alternating graphene and metal layers that are arranged on the second metal layer, where the first and second metal layers are monolayers. USE - SAW device for being integrated into a computing device e.g. set top box, entertainment unit, navigation device, mobile location data unit, global positioning system (GPS) device, mobile phone, cellular phone, smart phone, session initiation protocol (SIP) phone, tablet and phablet (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The device achieves higher operating frequency, wider bandwidth, smaller size, and lower insertion loss. The device combines low density and high conductivity of graphene, so that mass loading effect can be reduced without compromising quality of the SAW device.
