NOVELTY - Catalyst is composite catalyst (I) and (II), where the component (I) and component (II) are composited in a mechanical mixing manner, the active ingredient of component (I) is a metal oxide, the component (II) is an X-type molecular sieve modified with alkali metal cesium, the metal oxides are manganese oxide, manganese chromium oxide, manganese aluminum oxide, manganese zirconium oxide, manganese indium oxide, zinc oxide, zinc chromium oxide, zinc aluminum oxide, zinc gallium oxide, zinc indium oxide, cerium dioxide, cerium zirconium oxide, cobalt aluminum oxide, ferric aluminum oxide, indium (III) oxide, indium aluminum manganese oxide and indium gallium manganese oxide, the specific surface area of the manganese oxide, zinc oxide, cerium dioxide, indium(III) oxide is 1-100 m2/g, and the specific surface area of the remaining metal oxide compounds is 5-150 m2/g. USE - The catalyst is useful for preparing ethylbenzene by directly converting catalytic synthesis gas and toluene. ADVANTAGE - The catalyst has high product yield and selectivity of aromatics of 40-80%, and increases proportion of ethylbenzene in aromatics to 50-90%.
