NOVELTY - Method for making a nanocomposite, involves (a) forming an aqueous dispersion (A) comprising zirconia nanoparticles and graphene oxide powder, (b) combining a reducing agent with the aqueous dispersion (A), (c) irradiating the aqueous dispersion (A) with microwave radiation to obtain aqueous dispersion (B) comprising zirconia and graphene, and (d) separating the nanocomposite from the aqueous dispersion (B), where the nanocomposite comprises zirconia and graphene. USE - The method is useful for making nanocomposite used for water shutoff in oil field applications. ADVANTAGE - The nanocomposite demonstrates enhanced mechanical and thermal stability.
