NOVELTY - Ionic plastic crystal comprises at least one delocalized anion paired with at least one cation derived from organic guanidine, amidine or phosphazene superbase. USE - The ionic plastic crystals are useful in electrochemical cell, supercapacitor, electrochromic material and solid electrolyte composition for electrochemical cell i.e. electrochemical battery lithium battery, lithium-ion battery, sodium battery, sodium-ion battery, magnesium battery and lithium battery with magnesium ion, preferably lithium battery and lithium-ion battery (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The ionic plastic crystals have high flexibility and plasticity, non-flammability, exceptional ionic conductivity, good thermal and electrochemical properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) composition comprising at least one ionic plastic crystal and at least one additional component and/or at least one polymer; (2) binder comprising the ionic plastic crystal composition; (3) electrochemical cell comprising the ionic plastic crystal composition; (4) supercapacitor comprising the ionic plastic crystal composition; (5) electrochromic material comprising the ionic plastic crystal composition; (6) solid electrolyte composition comprising the ionic plastic crystal or the ionic plastic crystal composition and at least one salt or at least one additional component; (7) electrode comprising the electrode material on a current collector; (8) electrochemical cell comprising a negative electrode, a positive electrode and an electrolyte, where at least one of the negative electrode, the positive electrode and the electrolyte comprises at least one ionic plastic crystal or the ionic plastic crystal composition, where the ionic plastic crystal and the ionic plastic crystal composition are optionally crosslinked, and the at least one of the negative electrode and the positive electrode is the electrode; (9) electrochemical battery comprising at least one the electrochemical cell; (10) preparing ionic plastic crystal or ionic plastic crystal composition, comprising (i) reacting at least one organic guanidine, amidine or phosphazene superbase with at least one source of protons to form at least one complex including a protonated cation derived from organic guanidine, amidine or phosphazene superbase and counterion, and (ii) reacting the complex including a protonated cation derived from organic guanidine, amidine or phosphazene superbase and counterion with at least one ionic salt; (11) stabilized intermediate ion-neutral complex obtained by reacting at least one cation derived from organic guanidine, amidine or phosphazene superbase and at least one bis-silylated compound of formula (Si(R2)3-O-Z-O-Si(R2)3) (VII); and (12) producing electrode material, comprising (1) preparing a slurry of binder and carbon, (2) preparation of an ionic catholyte solution based on an ionic plastic crystal, and (3) producing suspension of ionic plastic crystal, binder and carbon. Z = optionally substituted organic group i.e. linear or branched 1-10C alkylene , linear or branched 1-10C alkyleneoxy-1-10C alkylene, poly(1-10C alkyleneoxy)1-10C linear or branched alkylene, linear or branched polyether, linear or branched polycarbonate, linear or branched polythiocarbonate, linear or branched polyamide, linear or branched polyimide, linear or branched polyurethane, linear or branched polysiloxane, linear thioether or branched, linear or branched polyphosphazene, linear or branched polyester and linear or branched polythioester; and R2 = alkyl group, aryl group or arylalkyl group.
