NOVELTY - The device (9) a coating (15) provided on an object. The coating includes an active layer (24) containing multitude of small-sized structures (27) i.e. graphene flakes, for producing wavelength-dependent diffraction and/or interference of electromagnetic radiation. An arrangement of the small-sized structures relative to each other is varied depending on control signals. An actuating layer (22) is formed beneath the active layer. The actuating layer comprises an elastomer (33) or piezoceramic material. The active layer is mechanically coupled to the elastomer or to the piezoceramic material. USE - Device for controlling reflection of incident electromagnetic radiation depending on wavelength by an object i.e. aircraft or spacecraft (claimed) to camouflage the object. Can also be used for helicopter, tank, lorry, ship and boat. ADVANTAGE - The device provides an improved way of camouflaging or reducing observability of the object. The device is effective and can be implemented in an efficient manner when applied to a large object. The dynamic and flexible replacement for mimetic painting and/or camouflage add-ons is provided.
