NOVELTY - Improving performance of a carbon-based material comprises performing an isothermal heat treatment of a carbon-based material suspension in a sealed container. The isothermal heat treatment is carried out at 30-80 degrees C for less than or equal to 20 days. USE - The method is used for improving performance of a carbon-based material, e.g. graphene oxide. ADVANTAGE - The carbon-based material has improved stability, hydriphilicity, and mechanical properties. The isothermal heat treatment is easy.
