NOVELTY - Manufacture of unit cell involves (i) aligning an electrode (22) comprising one or more electroactive material layers (a1) arranged on or adjacent to one or more surfaces of a detachable substrate and an electrode (24) comprising one or more electroactive material layers (a2) arranged on or adjacent to one or more surfaces of a current collector (34), (ii) arranging an electrolyte layer (26) between the exposed surfaces of the electrodes (e1,e2), and (iii) removing the detachable substrate. USE - Manufacture of unit cell e.g. bipolar single unit cell (claimed) used for all-solid-state battery e.g. rechargeable lithium-ion battery. Uses include but are not limited to motorcycle, boat, tractor, bus, tank, aerospace component, consumer goods, appliance, office equipment, furniture, agricultural equipment, heavy machinery, etc. ADVANTAGE - The high-performance all-solid-state battery formed using the unit cell has improved safety, excellent durability, and reduced or suppressed defects, such as distortion and contamination.
