NOVELTY - Preparation of 1,2-propylene glycol, involves using oxygen-enriched graphene as an electrocatalyst, and performing electrochemical reaction of formaldehyde. USE - The method is useful for preparing 1,2-propylene glycol by electrocatalyzing formaldehyde. ADVANTAGE - The method uses the oxygen-enriched graphene as the catalytic material, which can greatly improve the reaction activity, and has good catalytic stability and low cost. The method provides 1,2-propylene glycol with high Faraday efficiency of 27.4% under the relative standard hydrogen electrode -0.8V over-electric potential, and effective current density of 13.7 milliampere/square centimeter.
