NOVELTY - Biosensor comprises graphene surface and ruthenium hexamine molecule. USE - The biosensor is useful for detecting species, preferably meat species in a food item (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The biosensor enables to detect meat species in a rapid, and cost-effective manner with high versatility and sensitivity, and with detection limit of 1-100 pg/ mu l. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for method for using a graphene biosensor to detect a species in a food item, involves synthesizing a primer specific for to-be detected species, preparing a ruthenium hexamine molecule solution, placing the ruthenium hexamine molecule mixture onto graphene biosensor, contacting the graphene biosensor with to-be detected food item, and forming a system and detecting the cathodic current which may be produced by applying square wave voltammetry (SWV) to system, where the high cathodic current is produced when ruthenium hexamine molecule moves in close proximity to graphene biosensor due to ruthenium hexamine molecule binding with the DNA of the species in the food item indicating presence of species in the food item.
