NOVELTY - Making a porous three-dimensional graphene mesh involves combining a graphene-containing material and a polymer having multiple hydroxyl groups in an alcohol solvent to form a mixture; adding a salt to the mixture; heating the mixture to form a gel; and washing the gel with water to remove the salt from the gel leaving behind stable pores to form a scaffold. USE - Method for making a porous three-dimensional graphene mesh used in stable three-dimensional material matrix and three-dimensional porous graphene. ADVANTAGE - The method enables to make a porous three-dimensional graphene mesh in the combination of poly(ethylene)(glycol) (PEG) with GO together with a salt leaching approach (NaCl) with a controlled application of heat during the synthetic process to tailor the mechanical properties, porosity and pore size distribution of the resulting GO-3D mesh, where the porosity is less than 90%, with an increasing ratio of NaCl to GO, then the number of pores increases with good interconnectivity. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: (1) stable three-dimensional material matrix comprises graphene-containing material; a polymer, where the polymer is crosslinked with the graphene-containing material; and salt crystals integrated with the graphene-containing material and polymer; and (2) three-dimensional porous graphene mesh comprises a graphene-containing material; and a polymer, where the polymer is crosslinked with the graphene-containing material such that the Young's Modulus of the mesh is 5 GPa.
