NOVELTY - Preparing 5-hydroxymethyl furoic acid, comprises contacting aqueous solution of 5-hydroxymethyl furfural with catalyst under air and/or oxygen conditions, and carrying out catalytic oxidation reaction to prepare 5-hydroxymethyl furoic acid, where the catalyst is obtained by mixing front carrier and basic nitrogen-containing compound in solvent, heating and stirring in a water bath, and performing alkali treatment, drying and calcining the front carrier after the alkali treatment to obtain carrier, and loading the active component on the carrier; where the active component is ruthenium, palladium, platinum, rhodium, iridium and/or osmium; and the front carrier is activated carbon, graphite, fullerene and/or graphene oxide. USE - The method is useful for preparing 5-hydroxymethyl furoic acid. ADVANTAGE - The method: has high product selectivity, simple operation, and mild reaction condition; and is environmentally-friendly, and suitable for industrial production.
