NOVELTY - Manufacture of ion exchange membrane involves dissolving 15-25% (w/w) polymer with 75-85% (w/w) solvent under mechanical stirring at room temperature, placing the solution in an ultrasonic shaker for 30 minutes, incorporating 3-6 %mass exchange resin, scattering the resultant solution on a glass plate and carrying out phase inversion process to obtain films. USE - Manufacture of ion exchange membrane used in electrodialysis cell for removing heavy metals in contaminated effluents. ADVANTAGE - The method produces ion exchange membrane having excellent surface charge density, selectivity, electrical resistance, mechanical and dimensional stability, high permeability to counter-ion and high chemical stability.
