NOVELTY - Synthesizing graphene-based material involves exposing graphene-encapsulated metal nanoparticles comprising graphene shell surrounding a metal core, to a cracking and gas welding composition under preset conditions to crack graphene shells and to reconstruct cracked graphene shells to form the graphene-based material. USE - Synthesizing graphene-based material (claimed). Uses include but are not limited to electrode material for supercapacitors, fuel cells and/or lithium ion batteries, catalysts for renewable chemical/fuel production from biomass-derived syngas, adsorbent for biomass derived syngas cleaning and purification, adsorbents for heavy metal removal from contaminated water and soil. ADVANTAGE - The method produces graphene-based material with yield of at least 90%. DESCRIPTION OF DRAWING(S) - The drawing shows a schematic view of a graphene-encapsulated iron nanoparticle.
