NOVELTY - A composite electrode material comprises a core in which material of the core is greater than or equal to 1 selected from tin (Sn), antimony (Sb), silicon (Si), germanium (Ge), and their compounds; and graphene nanowall or graphene-like carbon nanowall where graphene nanowall or graphene-like carbon nanowall grows on a surface of the core. USE - A composite electrode material for composite electrode used for lithium based battery (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The composite electrode material uses graphene or graphene-like carbon with a unique structure to maintain excellent battery efficiency and cycle life. The silicon particles have excellent charge/discharge characteristics without the need for coating a conductive diamond film on the surface of the silicon in advance. The composite electrode can effectively improve the performance of the battery. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for: (1) manufacturing a composite electrode material which involves providing a core in which material is selected from Sn, Sb, Si, Ge, and their compounds; and growing a graphene nanowall or graphene-like carbon nanowall on a surface of the core using a plasma assisted deposition; (2) composite electrode comprising substrate on which an active material layer is disposed where the active material layer consists of composite electrode material containing a core where material is selected from Sn, Sb, Si, Ge, and their compounds, and graphene nanowall or graphene-like carbon nanowall where graphene nanowall or graphene-like carbon nanowall grows on surface of the core; and adhesive; and (3) lithium based battery, comprising a composite electrode (4) containing a substrate on which an active material layer is disposed where active material layer comprises a composite electrode material; counter electrode (2) made of lithium metal or lithium containing compound; separator (3) disposed between composite electrode and counter electrode; and electrolyte (8) disposed between composite electrode and counter electrode and also disposed on both sides of the separator.
