NOVELTY - The membrane (100) has a graphene oxide layer formed to cover a hydrophobic membrane partially or wholly. A surface of the hydrophobic membrane facing the graphene oxide layer is hydrophilic-processed. A hydrophilic processed layer is formed between the hydrophobic membrane and the graphene oxide layer. The hydrophobic membrane comprises hydrophobic polymer and hydrophilic polymer. The graphene oxide layer comprises graphene oxide particles. The graphene oxide layer is provided with thickness of 100 nanometer to 10 micrometer. USE - Separation membrane for use as a filter in a membrane distillation apparatus, a humidifier and a water purifier (all claimed) for removing contaminants e.g. volatile contaminants such as volatile organic contaminants, and non-volatile contaminants such as non-volatile ionic contaminants, contained in influent water for water treatment applications. ADVANTAGE - The separation membrane effectively removes the volatile contaminants and the non-volatile contaminants by forming a coating layer on the hydrophobic membrane using coating liquid, while maintaining performance of the membrane. The graphene oxide layer transmits vapor without transmitting gas of organic volatile solvent.
