NOVELTY - Preparing graphene supported nickel hydrogenation catalyst comprises: preparing graphite oxide by hummer's method, filtering, separating, dispersing in aqueous solution of organic amine under ultrasonic condition, then filtering; dissolving nickel acetate in concentrated ammonia, then re-dispersing in aqueous solution of graphite oxide, adding aqueous ammonia and ultrasonicating; and heating the mixed solution, filtering, separating to obtain a catalyst precursor, reacting in a tubular furnace. USE - The graphene supported nickel hydrogenation catalyst is useful in selective hydrogenation of dimethyl oxalate to methyl glycolate (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is simple and achieves large-scale production. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparing graphene supported nickel hydrogenation catalyst comprises: (i) preparing graphite oxide by hummer's method, filtering, separating, dispersing in aqueous solution of organic amine under ultrasonic condition, then filtering; (ii) dissolving nickel acetate in concentrated ammonia, then re-dispersing in aqueous solution of graphite oxide, adding aqueous ammonia and ultrasonicating; and (iii) heating the mixed solution to steam ammonia and until it is neutral, filtering, separating to obtain a catalyst precursor, adding catalyst precursor into a tubular furnace, then aging. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is also included for graphene supported nickel hydrogenation catalyst.
