NOVELTY - Apparatus comprises multilayer co-extrusion device comprising many series-coupled layer multiplication dies (116), where multilayer co-extrusion apparatus is configured to exfoliate graphene by co-extrusion of first processing material (106) and second processing material (108) through series coupled layer multiplication dies to produce resulting material including many alternating layers of first and second processing materials. The first processing material comprises first graphite material dispersed in first substrate, and second processing material comprises second substrate material. USE - The apparatus is useful for: delaminating multi-sheet substance; and producing graphene from graphite (all claimed), where graphene produced is used in polymer composites, polyvinyl chloride siding, poly(lactic acid), automotive and/or other transportation-related applications and electronics-related applications, as additive for polystyrene-based composites, and for providing electrically conductive polymers for textile applications. ADVANTAGE - The apparatus produces graphene, which provides: composites having high mechanical strength and heat resistance; and long-lasting antistatic properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) delaminating a multi-sheet substance, comprising either: (a) mixing a multi-sheet substance comprising many stacked sheets with a first substrate material to form a first processing material, (b) delaminating at least one sheet from the multi-sheet substance by application of shear stress to the first processing material, where application of shear stress to the first processing material comprises multilayer co-extrusion of the first processing material and a second processing material through at least one series coupled layer multiplication die arranged to produce a resulting material comprising many alternating layers that comprises the first processing material and the second processing material upon co-extrusion of the first processing material and the second processing material through it, and (c) separating the delaminated sheets from the first substrate material; or step (a) as above per se, (b1) delaminating at least one sheet from the multi-sheet substance by application of shear stress to the first processing material, and step (c) as above per se, where the multi-sheet substance comprises a first graphite material, the delaminated sheets comprise graphene, and the first substrate material comprises at least one organic polymer and/or wax; and (2) producing graphene from graphite, comprising dispersing a first graphite material in a first substrate material to form a first processing material, and exfoliating graphene from the first graphite material by co-extrusion of the first processing material and a second processing material through at least one layer multiplication die to yield a resulting material including individual layers of the first processing material interposed between individual layers of the second processing material, where the second processing material comprises a second substrate material.
