NOVELTY - The lid (100) has a water inlet (101) that is provided for receiving the raw water from a tap. A water outlet (102) discharges the purified water and air from container. A water purification unit has a cartridge containing filters that are attached to the operative bottom of lid. The water purification unit is configured to receive raw water from water inlet for purification and pass purified water into container. The water inlet comprises a flexible adapter (103) that is attached to the circumference of water inlet by a groove provided at the operative bottom of flexible adapter. The flexible adapter is configured to be connected to tap for receiving the raw water and passing the raw water into water purification unit by using water pressure in the water supply line. USE - Lid for container (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The filter assembly can be fitted within a bottle or container. The integrated filter can remove all types of contaminants from the drinking water. The container lid with water purification unit can be used as an effective, efficient, reliable, convenient to use and maintain portable water container with filter, and which can overcome the drawbacks of known devices. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The flexible adapter comprises a centrally positioned diaphragm-type conical grip for receiving the opening of tap. The cartridge includes a first portion of housing and a second portion of housing. The second portion of housing is aligned vertically below and detachably attached to first portion of housing and configured to receive portionially purified water from first portion of housing. The operative top of said cartridge includes an inlet opening aligned with water inlet for receiving raw water under pressure from the water supply line into first portion of housing of cartridge. The first portion of housing of cartridge comprises chemical filter, and second portion of housing of cartridge comprises physical filter. A physical filter is a micropore filter comprising a filter selected from an ultrafiltration membrane filter and graphene filter. The cartridge comprises magnetic water softeners for softening and conditioning the raw water. An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for a method for purifying tap water using the lid, involves attaching water inlet of lid to the mouth of the tap by a flexible adapter. The raw water in cartridge of water purification unit is filled by using water pressure in the water supply line. The raw water is filtered in first portion of housing by chemical filter to remove biological, organic, inorganic and metal impurities, to provide portionially purified water. The purified water is discharged from second portion of housing into container for storage. The purified water is consumed from water outlet of lid.
