NOVELTY - Self-healing biocompatible elastomer comprising polymeric chains (I) is new. USE - (I) are useful in antibacterial composition for wound dressing in the treatment and/or monitoring a condition of a wound, where the condition of the wound is monitored by the at least one sensor and in performing a surgical incision on a body part and the wound dressing is applied to the body part and the incision is performed atop the wound dressing (all claimed). Test details are described but no results given. ADVANTAGE - (I): monitor the wound healing process and reduce secondary injuries to wounds; imparts the antibacterial properties to the elastomer without affecting its biocompatibility and/or self-healing properties. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Self-healing biocompatible elastomer comprising polymeric chains of formula (-(O-R1-O-C(=O)-NH-R2-NH-C(=O)-O-R3-O-C(=O)-NH-R2-NH-C(=O)-) (I) is new. R1=linear 2-20C alkylene or -R4-S-S-R4'-; R4, R4'=linear 1-10C alkylene; R2=a linear or cyclic 4-10C alkylene; and R3=polybutadiene, polybutene, polyethylene, polypropylene or polyisoprene. INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: a one-pot method for preparing (I); an elastomer obtained by the method; an antibacterial composition comprising the elastomer, and a quaternary ammonium compound; preparing the composition comprising mixing the elastomer, a quaternary ammonium compound and a solvent to form a homogeneous mixture and evaporating the solvent; and a wound dressing comprising a film made of the elastomer, or of the composition.
