NOVELTY - The fabric comprises a first layer of yarns woven to form the fabric. The yarns comprise an unitary graphene-based continuous graphitic fiber comprising 90 wt.% of graphene planes that are chemically bonded with one another having an inter-planar spacing (d002) of 0.3354-0.4 nm as determined by X-ray diffraction and an oxygen content of less than 5 wt.%. The graphene planes are parallel to one another and parallel to a fiber axis direction. The graphitic fiber contains no coreshell structure, and has no helically arranged graphene domains or domain boundary. USE - The fabric is useful as a filtering element in a filter (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The multi-functional and high-performing fabric is tightly interwoven to block entry of pathogenic agents, and improves filtering efficiency, useful life, strength and structural integrity of the filter. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - The fabric comprises a first layer of yarns woven to form the fabric. The graphitic fiber contains no coreshell structure, has no helically arranged graphene domains or domain boundary, and has a porosity level of less than 5 vol.%. The inter-planar spacing is 0.3354-0.36 nm, the oxygen content is less than 2 wt.%, and/or the porosity level is less than 2 vol.%. The fabric, the yarn or the continuous graphitic fiber has a cross-section that is rectangular or flat-shaped, having a width and a thickness. The fabric, the yarn or the continuous graphitic fiber has a width-to-thickness ratio of greater than 5. The fabric or a yarn has a thickness of less than 100 mu m. The yarn has a packing factor of greater than 80%. The continuous graphitic fiber has an oxygen content of less than 0.001%, an intergraphene spacing of less than 0.336 nm, a thermal conductivity of 1700 W/mK, an electrical conductivity greater than 15000 S/cm, a mosaic spread value of less than 0.4, a degree of graphitization of greater than 80%, a physical density of greater than 1.8 g/cm3, a Young's modulus of greater than 200 GPa and/or a tensile strength of greater than 3.2 GPa. The continuous graphitic fiber contains: chemically bonded graphene molecules or chemically merged graphene planes that are parallel to one another; a first graphene domain containing bonded graphene planes parallel to one another and having a first crystallographic c-axis; a second graphene domain containing bonded graphene planes parallel to one another and having a second crystallographic c-axis; and a poly-crystal graphite structure with graphene molecules oriented along a fiber axis direction. The first crystallographic c-axis and the second crystallographic c-axis are inclined with respect to each other at an angle of less than 10 degrees . The continuous graphitic fiber has a poly-crystal graphitic structure having a grain size of larger than 1 mm. The yarns comprise fiber consisting of wool, cotton, asbestos, nylon, synthetic, carbon nanotubes, and graphene-based graphitic fiber. The first layer of yarns woven together exhibit the physical, electrical, mechanical, chemical, or thermal properties of the unitary graphene-based continuous graphitic fibers that constitute the yarns. The fabric comprises an additional layer of yarns woven together. The additional layer of yarns further comprises a unitary graphene-based continuous graphitic fiber. The fabric is a woven fabric comprising a flat yarn of graphene-derived graphitic fibers as its warp or weft. The flat yarn is twist-free, and the ratio of yarn width to yarn thickness is 10-150.
