NOVELTY - Method (I) for producing graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane, comprises: (a) selecting growth substrate (101) having a surface (103); (b) growing graphene having a graphene surface on growth substrate surface; (c) applying a dispersion of graphene oxide platelets (106) on the graphene surface; and (d) producing the graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane by forming a self-assembled film (107) of graphene oxide platelets on the graphene, where the forming of the self-assembled film comprises drying the dispersion of graphene oxide platelets. USE - The methods are useful for producing graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane, which is useful: in compositions and devices (including a NEM (sic) device that is operable for utilizing the graphene/graphene oxide composite, a graphene/graphene oxide membrane switch, and a graphene/graphene oxide membrane pump) (all claimed), electromechanical switches, conductive thin films for electronic displays and electronic components including capacitors; as a base layer for patterning conductive traces; as a thin film resonator for chemical or biochemical sensing applications; and for electro-dissipative coatings. ADVANTAGE - The method utilizes the step of exposing the graphene oxide to methane, and thus provides the membrane with improved quality. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are also included for: (1) producing a conductive thin film/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane, comprising: the step (a) as above per se; (b1) growing a conductive thin film having a conductive thin film surface on the growth substrate surface; (c1) applying a dispersion of graphene oxide platelets on the conductive thin film surface; (d1) producing the conductive thin film/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane by forming a self-assembled film of graphene oxide platelets on the conductive thin film, where the step of forming the self-assembled film of graphene oxide platelets on the conductive thin film comprises drying the dispersion of graphene oxide platelets; (2) a method (II) for producing graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane, comprising: the step (a) as above per se; (b2) growing graphene on the growth substrate surface; (c2) depositing a dispersion of graphene oxide having a graphene oxide surface, on a second substrate; (d2) transferring the graphene from the growth substrate onto the graphene oxide surface; and (e2) producing a graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane from the graphene oxide and the graphene transferred from the growth substrate; (3) method for producing graphene/graphene oxide composite, comprising: (a3) selecting a substrate having a substrate surface; (b3) causing graphene having a graphene surface, to be on the substrate surface; the step (c) as above per se; and (d3) forming a graphene/graphene oxide composite from the graphene and the graphene oxide; (4) a method (III) for producing graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane, comprising: (a4) forming a thin film of graphene having a graphene surface; the steps (c) and (d) as above per se; (5) a composition comprising the graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane, where the graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane has a first thin film comprising graphene and a second thin film comprising a self-assembled film of graphene oxide platelets, in which the first thin film is on the second thin film; and (6) a device comprising: the graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane; and a first substrate, where the graphene/graphene oxide platelet composite membrane is on the first substrate.
