NOVELTY - Use of Cyrene(RTM: dihydrolevoglucosenone) as electrolyte solvent or co-solvent for metal-air battery and/or in preparation of electrolyte for metal-air battery, is claimed. USE - Use of Cyrene (RTM: dihydrolevoglucosenone) as electrolyte solvent or co-solvent for metal-air battery and/or in preparation of electrolyte for metal-air battery (all claimed). ADVANTAGE - The Cyrene (RTM: dihydrolevoglucosenone) can be derived from renewable cellulose waste, does not contain any nitrogen and sulfur heteroatoms in the molecule, is environmentally-friendly, has extremely low toxicity, can also regulate solvation and desolvation of metal ions and promote the generation and dissolution of discharge products in the electrolyte and their decomposition during charging, and reduces the charging overpotential of the metal-air battery. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - INDEPENDENT CLAIMS are included for the following: an electrolyte, which comprises metal salt, solvent and co-solvent; and preparation of the electrolyte, which involves dissolving the metal salt in a mixed solution of solvent and co-solvent.
