NOVELTY - Method for manufacture of graphene oxide from graphite electrode scrap, involves (a) providing the graphite electrode scrap, (b) grinding the electrode graphite scrap to obtain grinded graphite electrode, (c) preparing a mixture comprising the grinded graphite electrode, an acid and a nitrate salt, the mixture being kept at a temperature of below 5 degrees C, (d) adding an oxidizing agent to the above mixture to obtain graphite oxide, (e) adding an element to stop the oxidation reaction, after the targeted level of oxidation is reached, (f) separating the graphite oxide from the obtained mixture, and (g) exfoliating the graphite oxide into graphene oxide. USE - The method is used for manufacturing graphene oxide, which is used in metal industries including steel, aluminum, stainless steel, copper, iron, copper alloys, titanium, cobalt, metal composite and nickel industries, for coating or as a cooling reagent. ADVANTAGE - The method is carried out in environmentally-friendly manner in a short time, increases the productivity compared to conventional methods, and provides product having excellent quality. The graphene oxide is hydrophilic, has high thermal conductivity and a high electrical conductivity.
