NOVELTY - Preparation of graphene nanosheets, involves mixing graphite flakes precursor, concentrated sulfuric acid, sodium nitrate and potassium permanganate in ice water bath, stirring, adding deionized water and hydrogen peroxide solution to obtain yellowish-brown mixture, filtering, washing filtrate with hydrochloric acid solution, vacuum-drying filtrate to prepare graphite oxide, pre-heating graphite oxide in programmable muffle furnace under air atmosphere, and performing low-temperature thermal oxidation. USE - Preparation of graphene nanosheets (claimed). ADVANTAGE - The method is capable of preparing graphene nanosheets in a simple, safe and economical manner. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - Preparation of graphene nanosheets, involves mixing graphite flakes precursor having purity of 99%, concentrated sulfuric acid, sodium nitrate and potassium permanganate in ice water bath, stirring mixture at 40 degrees C for 15 minutes, adding deionized water to the mixed solution and then stirring for 30 minutes, adding 30% hydrogen peroxide solution to obtain yellowish-brown mixture, filtering mixture, washing filtrate with 5% hydrochloric acid solution, vacuum-drying filtrate at 60 degrees C for 25 hours to prepare graphite oxide, pre-heating graphite oxide at 200-300 degrees C for 10 minutes in a programmable muffle furnace under air atmosphere, and performing low-temperature thermal oxidation.
