NOVELTY - Preparation of composite involves (i) charging a mixer with at least a solid elastomer and a filler comprising silica and carbon black, which is a wet carbon black comprising at least 20 wt.% liquid based on total weight of wet carbon black, (ii) mixing the elastomer and the filler to form a mixture in one or more steps in the absence of sulfur-containing silane coupling agents and removing at least a portion of the liquid from the mixture by evaporation, and (iii) discharging the composite comprising the filler dispersed in the elastomer at a loading of at least 20 phr from the mixer. The composite has a liquid content of 10 wt.% or less based on total weight of composite, and at least 60 wt.% of the filler dispersed in the elastomer is carbon black. USE - Preparation of composite used in preparation of vulcanizate for article (all claimed) e.g. rubber articles. Uses include but are not limited to tire treads, dredging hoses, seals, gaskets, weather stripping, windshield wipers, engine mounts, earthquake stabilizers, impellers, grinding mill liners, etc. ADVANTAGE - The method ensures increased mixing efficiency, and provides composite having improved elongation at break due to presence of silica coating agent. DETAILED DESCRIPTION - An INDEPENDENT CLAIM is included for preparation of vulcanizate, which involves curing the prepared composite in the presence of at least one curing agent.
